A Cebi solution receives the Solar Impulse Label

In February 2021, Cebi's Thermal Storage Tank (TST) was attributed the "Solar Impulse Efficient Solution" Label following an assessment performed by external independent experts and based on verified standards. It is thereby joining the #1000solutions challenge, an initiative undertaken by the Solar Impulse Foundation to select solutions that meet high standards in profitability and sustainability and present them to decision-makers to fast-track their implementation.

At Cebi, protection of the environment is becoming increasingly prevalent. Cebi has therefore decided to show its commitment towards this important matter by applying to the Solar Impulse Efficient Solution with one of their innovative product. The Thermal Storage Tank (TST) uses the existing vehicle washer tank to store waste heat during electric vehicle operation and return it to provide heating and to reduce battery drain in cold ambient conditions.

In cold ambient, electrical heating is a significant load on the battery, reducing range by up to 40%. On the other hand, excess heat produced during operation or charging is usually rejected to the environment. The Thermal Storage Tank (TST) uses the thermal mass of the existing washer tank, carried on every vehicle, to store and release this energy. It may also serve as a heat sink during thermal peaks, for example in fast charging mode. In summary, while the electrical powertrain recuperates kinetic energy, the TST recuperates thermal energy.

To receive the "Solar Impulse Efficient Solution" Label, the Thermal Storage Tank system was thoroughly assessed by a pool of independent experts according to 5 criteria covering the three main topics of Feasibility, Environmental and Profitability. All labelled solutions are part of the #1000solutions portfolio that will be presented to decision-makers in business and government by Bertrand Piccard, Chairman of the Solar Impulse Foundation. The aim of this initiative is to encourage the adoption of more ambitious environmental targets and fast-track the implementation of these solutions on a large scale.

This label serves as an award for clean and profitable solutions.
